Red Tail has a female winemaker (Nancy Irelan) and has been nominated for two James Beard Awards for Outstanding Wine, Spirits or Beer Producer. Red Tail Ridge is also noted for its "green" efforts, such as its building, which uses geothermal energy for heating, cooling and refrigeration. Aromas of ripe plum are contrasted by hints of cedar wood and star anise. A medium weight on the mid-palate presents hints of cocoa powder and pink peppercorn highlighting its plucky acidity.
