Don’t let the lack of designation fool you - this Chianti Classico is only not labeled as such due to politics and an uncompromising commitment to quality. Because of the winemaker’s refusal to incorporate Trebbiano into the Montevertine blend, Montevertine left the Chianti Classico consortium, thereby forgoing the Chianti Classico denomination. In time the consortium recognized the wisdom of Manetti’s stance but Montevertine remains outside the consortium, simply labeling its wines “Rosso di Toscana”. Simply one of the most legendary Chianti Classicos there is.
Decant it for at least an hour before consuming if opening a bottle now; otherwise, cellar it for a few years to give it time to really blossom.
